Sleep Medicine with Sansone Family Dental Practice

Do you find yourself waking up in the middle of the night for no reason? Is your partner concerned for you because your breathing stops periodically while you sleep? Or perhaps you find yourself feeling sluggish during the day, even though you went to bed early? If you said yes to any of these, you may suffer from sleep-disordered breathing.

Sansone Family Dental Practice is proud to offer sleep medicine services to help stop our patients from snoring and living with sleep apnea. Our dental team will work with sleep physicians to first identify the issue plaguing the patient, and then create a treatment plan that works for their individual set of needs.

Should you be diagnosed with snoring and no sleep apnea, our dental team will prescribe you with an oral sleep appliance. This appliance is to be worn at night while the patient sleeps. The appliance fits just like a sports mouth guard and is custom-fit to the patient's mouth. When worn the oral appliance supports the jaw and keeps it in a forward position preventing the airway from collapsing, which in turn keeps the patient from snoring.

For patients diagnosed with sleep apnea, the most common treatment is with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. The CPAP machine keeps your airway open by providing forced air through a flexible tube. With a CPAP machine, the patient wears a mask as they sleep which is connected to the tube pushing air.

Signs you may be dealing with sleep apnea:
- Snoring, gasping, irregular breathing while sleeping - Morning headaches
- Depression - Diabetes
- Extreme sleepiness during the day - Heartburn
- High blood pressure - Stopped breathing episodes during sleep
- Hypertension

Sleep is important for your health and well-being. If snoring or sleep apnea is keeping you from sleeping well, don't hesitate to reach out to Sansone Family Dental Practice to discuss your sleep medicine options. We look forward to the opportunity to help you!
